Single Sheet Book Model

Origami

Not a book about origami, here is a book made out of Origami. This eight page book is made from a single sheet of paper, and has a colored jacket. Without books, what would we read when the power was out ? Poems, stickers, notes, secret codes, and bible verses fit nicely on the square pages. Make several and write an anthology.

Start with a paper twice as wide as it is high. You can cut a square paper in half, and make two books.

Valley fold the paper in half, forming a square, crease well and unfold.

Valley fold the left and right edges to meet in the middle. Crease well and unfold.

Create for more valley folds between each of the existing fold, dividing the paper into eight pieces. Crease and unfold each one.

Valley fold the paper in half horizontally, crease well and unfold.

Valley fold the top and bottom edges to meet in the middle, crease well, and unfold.

Create two diagonal valley creases, extending from the middle of the right edge, through one box up and one box down. Do not crease the entire length of the fold, only through one of the little squares.

Flatten the paper, and turn it over.

Valley fold the lower right corner to the center of the top edge, crease only the center two boxes.

The crease should extend from the end of the last diagonal folds, through two boxes diagonally. Mark the crease well and unfold.

Crease another diagonal valley fold from the end of the other right hand creases, extending diagonally through two squares, and cross the last valley fold perpendicularly through the center, making an 'X'. Crease well and unfold.

Two more valley creases extending from the end of the last two, through three squares to the top and bottom edges of the paper.

Shape the paper into a long tunnel by mountain folding the top and bottom quarters slightly.

Turn the paper so that the diagonal folds are facing you. Squash fold the closest set of creases.

The squash fold, in this instance, is created by lifting on the point on the closest edge, and valley folding the crease just behind. The edge of the paper will fold and meet in the center, and a point will form.

Fold that point over so that it lays flat on the top of the tunnel, and closes this closest end of the tunnel.

Waterbomb fold the closest set of intersecting diagonal folds.

To accomplish the waterbomb fold in this situation, pinch the left and right sides gently while pressing down on the point of the last fold.

As the waterbomb fold colapses, that point should face straight down, and the whole fold will flatten into your first set of pages.

Waterbomb fold the next set of creases, creating an accordian effect. Flatten the accordian.

The back of the tunnel can be flattened by folding along the remaining diagonal creases on the left and right sides.

Now that the pages are made, turn the model over to form the jacket.

Valley fold the left and right edges inwards, but leave a gap between them.

Valley fold the bottom two thirds of the model up.

Valley fold the bottom third inside of the last valley fold, sliding it into the pockets.

The pockets were created by the last four folds, so to slide the paper into them, you will need to relax the folds a bit and be gentle.

Two mountain folds just to the left and right of the center will form the spine of the book.

Re: Single Sheet Book Model

Very nice! Whose design is that? Yours? It's like a further development of the four page book from the traditional Masu box from a square.
