Jumping Frog

Origami

Once I believed there was an origami frog model. Much like paper airplanes, paper frogs come in an assortment of deviations, with hopes of creating better, further jumping paper pets. It was in a bar, while doing origami with a stranger (is there anything stranger than doing origami in a bar), that I was enlightened about the possibilities. So here is the base model for the origami frog, from which you should be creative an create your own. Don't forget to draw eyes.

You do not begin with a square paper, you begin with a rectangle. All of those scraps you have been making while making square paper can be frogs. This is a jumping frog, and much of the joy in this model is racing frogs, or doing long jump competitions with friends. Decorate your paper, stiffen your folds, line them up, and GO...

Begin the frog with a rectangular piece of paper. Fold a waterbomb base in the top square.
Just like the waterbomb, valley fold the two flaps up to meet the tip.
Valley fold those flaps in half, to meet the bottom of the waterbomb base.
Those flaps are the front legs of your frog. Valley fold little feet at the end of the legs.
Valley fold the left and right halves of the model in half, meeting in the middle.
From this point, you can make additional folds in the body of the frog to add stiffness to the hind legs. Valley fold the model just below (or a little above) the bottom of the waterbomb base. This creates the hind legs.
Valley fold a bit of this flap back down, creating the back feet.
You frog is complete, though he's dead. To revive him, turn him over and straighten his legs.
To make your frog jump, you need to pet his backside. He really loves this, and will jump forward or do flips.
