Adding flower pedals and grass seed to your paper gives it interesting texture and color.  You'll have to experiment with different materials, as many things like flowers fall off when you fold the paper.  Also, rolling the paper gives thinner, stronger results.  Handmade paper is a great place to begin your origami.
