Don't Let Being A Skill Keep You From Financial Freedom
I graduated from a top five university. I had three summer internship ranked top ten, nationally, by the Princeton Review. My first investment portfolio made 6.7 million dollars for the company I interned for; this earned me a hand written reference by the former U.S. Ambassidor to the Middle-East. I had difficulty holding down a decent job, let alone a career.
Why? Because I'm different. For me to be at my best 85% of the time, I cannot take my medication; it has horrible side affects. If I don't take my medication, once, maybe twice a month, I can't get out of bed for two or three days. I just can't wake up. Then again, before one of these crashes, I average between 30mins to 3 hours of sleep a night. I feel fine. I'm very productive when awake. I'm just not on everyone else's sleep patteren.
Story time: I decide to open my own business with my fiancee, who does take medication for depression. Her doctor switched her medication to one that I knew had side affect ranging from thoughts to suicide to thoughts of homicide. So, the fact that my angel became . . . hostle toward me was no surprise. What was a surprise was when, eight days after being on the new medication, she attacked me. I out-weigh her by fifty pounds and am also a professionally trained fighter, and it was all I could do to restrain her. A neighbor called the police from the noise. In my state, one person in a domestic-disturbance incident must go to jail. Because I had blood running down my chest and back from various scratches and cuts, she was arrested.
Two days after being off that medication, she was my angel again. She was devistated by what she did, and on top of it, she was facing jail time because the state decided to charge her with domestic battery.
Now, I mentioned my business because I belong to a program called Pre-Paid Legal. For $26 a month, I can a lawyer at my disposal 24/4. I got the service just to have them help me draft legal documents. Once I used them to help me get out of a cell phone contract. I never thought I'd need them for something like this. She was facing at least a $3,000 fine, and at most, 2 years in jail. we called an lawyer referenced by the state. The charge was $1,500 just for him to go in and plead "not guilty." The case itself was going to run $300/hr, min. of 20hrs. That's $7,500 if she was found innocent.
I called my lawyer. He said he'd check into it and call me back, just give him the ticket number and he'd see what he can do. Four hours later, the case was dismissed. Our cost $357 in bail. A $26/mo service saved me $7,000+ I thought the service already paid for itself by giving me unlimited access to legal advice and contract drafting for my business. My fiancee's and my little run in with the law made it invaluable.
Are you ever going to be in this situation? Who knows? What about a traffic ticket? What about your new teenage driver getting a traffic ticket? Identity theft? Error on your credit report? Wouldn't like like to have a lawyer handy to look over a car loan? Lease? Mortgage agreement? What about working for yourself selling their service? What about becoming an affiliate and hiring others to sell the service for you, making money off of every subscription they get!
That's what I decided to do. I set my own meetings with potiential subscribers and potiential recruits. Nights I can't sleep, I advertise or recruit (like right now). If I start feeling run down, I take a few days off. I've been an affiliate for about three months and I already make $3,000 in addition to my other income. I hope, within three more months, to be running this business full time.
If this at all peaked you interest, if you can think of one time when you really could have used some legal advice, if you can think of one person how could use some now (have a friend thinking about filing their own taxes or a relative buying a new home) take ten minutes and browse my website at http://www.prepaidlegal.com/hub/tomcass or email me at tomcass@prepaidlegal.com to set up a phone conversation. You have nothing to lose and EVERYTHING to save.
