Track Your Moods

One interesting thing that I've noticed, living with mood swings, is that it is difficult to remember your moods.  Particularly when you are in a swing, looking back to the past month becomes tainted with your current mood.  This is one reason that people keep diaries and journals.  If you never have, I recommend tracking your moods for a while to see if you can identify any patterns.  The more objective the information you have available, the better decisions you can make.

One simple method to keep track of moods is using a calendar.  Use simple marks that make sense to you, like smily faces and frowny faces.  Be sure to mark any major events, so you can see if your moods are related or unrelated to your environment.  A healthy individual will have mood swings, and they will follow major events.  A bipolar individual may have no mood swing following major events, or mood swings that come from nowhere.

I've written a piece of software that can aid you in tracking moods.  It provides a graph of your moods over time, like this one :

You provide your e-mail address, and how often you would like to be asked about your moods, and we'll send you an email with a quick form to fill in your moods.  You can then easily visualize your moods over time.
